Audio-visual example of my Newcastle City Council Arts Team funded Artist Residency (September to December 2024) at Newcastle Bangladeshi Association edited with collected sound and images from the residency as well as original documentary photography and sound by Michelle Allen.

Cyanotypes were our (new) skill and an appropriate means to tell stories of everyday life, heritage, roots and faith, in part inspired by muslim feminist Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain 's writings - especially one of the earliest Utopian short novels written: Sultana's Dream (1905) which included use of solar power and working in tune with nature to mitigate disasters like floods and drought.

The main piece created was a collective kantha (Bangladeshi blanket with specific embroidery): cyanotyped fabric panels embroidered with memories connecting intercultural elements of heritage and belonging.

Animated Ecologies

It has been a huge pleasure to be supported by NEPN to participate with the collaborative Animated Ecologies world wide creative network.

It offers the ability to think more about sutainability and climate justice in a playful way but also learn a wide range of new skills and new ways of using my photographs to tell my stories.

This brief debut animation is inspired by my lockdown cyanotypes and walks... work in progress!
